…and now for something a little bit different. The concept for this particular ad was rather intriguing: Doc Martens asked 10 artists to record their versions of songs regarded as ‘cult classics’, songs that ‘represent the spirit of the people who’ve worn DMs over the last fifty years’.

Sounds good on paper, but the question is, do they manage to pull it off? Well, we would say that the initiative is successful, judging by this cover, by Buraka Som Sistema of ‘Buffalo Stance’ by Neneh Cherry. The video created for the song is, well, Marmite-esque (trippy visuals against some decidedly dodgy dancing? Er… quite.), but the song itself is rather nice, the original being given a a club makeover.

It’s all quite arresting. We all know that having eye-catching ads helps get the message across, but we didn’t envisage anything like this. It certainly achieves that effect, we’ll say that much. There are more videos coming over the next few months, joining the four already in existence. Ever wondered, say, what Noisettes covering Buzzcocks would sound like? Well, go here and wonder no longer.
