Image Circle | Bone Mask
I initially had very mixed thoughts about this track. It came off like some kind of Italians Do It Better, Drive-soundtrack pastiche, only minus the meaning and readily vapid and empty.
But there’re leagues worth of emotion just bubbling below this track. It might not last the whole hog and I’d love to hear a big bursting chorus erupt out of its floaty atmosphere, but it’s the tenuous vulnerability of the vocals (I’m not overstating it when I say I hear hints of Grimes) here that I find myself falling in love with. Image Circle, a very anonymous new U.S. act, have just made the finest of first impressions.
