HUIAS

We often get lured into the trap of thinking all creativity stems from certain hubs, be it London or Berlin or Montreal - you might even end up falling for something average due to its location or perceived scene. I’m almost certainly guilty of that myself.

HUIAS come from Gijón, in Spain. Bereft of a famed scene, it still remains the location where two musicians locked themselves up in a humid room and made an EP of great stature. They sing in English, but all words on their ‘!’ EP flutter by and form part of the scenery. Every song - above: ‘Camino…Bosque’ and the below highlight ‘Tinto y geseosa’ are spirited, experimental songs. Traditional instruments lock horns with vocal twists and manipulative effects. It’s modern meets classic, something sceneless producing a bellowing cry.
